Tango Music Styles
Listed below are examples of the several tango music styles.
Each requires a somewhat different style of dance but are within the Argentine Tango family of dance. Click on the underlined
song title to hear it.
Tango Tipica
The sensuous modern style widely
associated with Tango today. This dance is wonderfully intimate and creates a powerful bond between the partners. Although
highly technical and often punctuated with dramatic kicks and turns, this dance is basically uncomplicated and extremely rewarding
to learn. Click on Carlos DiSarli's 'A la Gran Muneca' to hear a wonderful example of this playful and passionate
dance style.

Tango Milonga
A quick and lively favorite very
near the original tango dance style of 100 years ago, this six step version of the eight beat tango frame is a favorite with
all Tango dancers. It’s not nearly as technical as Tango Danza and as easy as it's fun! Click on Carlos DiSarli’s 'La
Mulateada' to hear a fine example of this dance style.

Tango Vals The Argentine version of the Waltz.
This is a graceful dance with the emphesis on 'musicality' very much like European Waltz but with the close connection
of Tango. Click on 'Ultima Adios' by Rudolfo Biagi to hear a favorite Tango Vals.

The dramatic songs of Osvaldo
Pugliese Mr. Pugliese's 'Love and Death' drama puts him in a category by himself! His songs plead and beg and forces
dancers to pore out their passion in response. Puliese songs are the most versatile songs and allow dancers to be
extremely creative. Click on Mr. Puliese’s ‘Gallo Ciego’ to hear a personal favorite. You’ll hear
the drama instantly!

Tango Nuevo- Most of the tango music we hear today was written as far back
as the 1930's and mostly in the late 1940's and 1950's. It is heartening as well as delightful that today's
youth have found Tango as intriguing as earlier generations and have taken Tango music to a new level. The purists cringe
but today’s ‘nuevo’ will be tomorrow’s classics. Click on the selection below from Gotan Project to
hear a superb example of modern Tango music!
